Gov. Workers Make 78% More than Private Sector

In our last post about the outrageous new minimum wage rates in California— at $10 per hour—we received many comments debating the pros and cons of such a move. Some mentioned that we should be grateful for such a wage rate in California while neglecting to point out that Cost of Living is a major factor affecting minimum wage.

The issue we are discussing is not whether or not we should be grateful for minimum wage rates being high or angry that they’re low. The point is this: What is the government’s role in all this? Are we being motivated to pursue higher education or not? Is the government trying to keep us content where we are rather than inspiring us to look for our own American dream?

I believe the answer is simple: Government workers make 78 percent more than private sector.*

Why be an entrepreneur? Why better ourselves? It seems a dichotomy, doesn’t it, that to better ourselves we must dig ourselves deeper into debt? Remember this: You and I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the American dream—for entrepreneurs like Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, the Wright Brothers, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs who did not content themselves with “regular” jobs or minimum wage. But rather sacrificed much so that we might gain more. Let’s not settle. Let’s dream!
